New Creation
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Cor 5:17-21
Please re-read that again, maybe even a third time. Alright, skip the third time.
What is one of the first questions you ask or get asked, if not the very first question, when you meet someone? "What do you do?"
My friend and I, actually, my spiritual friend, Daniel, are having lunch and we're talking about IDENTITY. And he asks the question that I just asked. Then, he says, "We are asking the wrong question. It should be, 'Who are you?'". It hit me like I was hearing it for the first time. I hope it does the same for you, as well. Not, "What do you do?", but, "Who are you?".
I'm not trivializing what you or I, or others do. Scripture makes very clear the importance of the inseparability of actions and faith. I'm talking priority, first-order type of thinking, a question of "being".
When you next meet someone, I dare you, ask them, "Who are you?". I'm willing to bet you'll get a quizzical look and be asked, "What do you mean?". Then, simply, ask them again, "Who are you?". Be prepared, you will most likely hear from them about "what they do", but you'll also here a lot more about who they are - their story!
Grace and peace for the journey...
