Good Fruit

Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:28-31

First, this means nothing to the non-believer (those who do not recognize, or confess faith in God). Second, believers "practice", "live out their faith", in varying degrees or depth (this does not denote superiority of one over another as God's love does not measure in the same way that the world measures). Third, as Christ-followers, "fruit" is understood to be our words, deeds, and signs. Undeniably, there can be both good and bad, "desirable" and "undesirable" fruit.

The deeper our relationship with God, the more desirable fruit is produced.

Honorable, praiseworthy, and edifying thoughts and actions (for any person, follower of Christ or not) is only of and through the grace of God working in and through that person (that is a confession of faith, the non Christ-follower sees their good fruit as attributable to whomever or whatever their god is).

My Lord my God, you, and only you, are the author and perfector of our faith. Let your holiness be in us - our everyday thoughts and actions, that we might know, and others might witness, your love. In the merciful name of Jesus…
