Seeing vs. Believing

During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
Matthew 14:25-27

"Seeing" is not always "believing". Although the disciples saw, until Jesus spoke to them, they did not believe, they did not know it was him.

A natural, fear-based tendency, is to place limits on what God can do. This fear, is grounded in our desire to exercise, or seek to exercise, control over our circumstances. It was not in the disciples' experience/knowledge that someone could walk on water.

Faith, O to have the faith the size of the mustard seed...to believe without seeing...to be assured of what one hopes for...

We might not see Jesus walk on water, but the Spirit of the Living God still speaks! Let us listen…
