Trust
Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man. John 2:23-25
Oftentimes, a word like trust is used and conveyed as being "all" or "nothing". Similarly, it is done with the word and concept of "faith", as well.
To talk of faith and trust in reference to God, is one thing. To talk of them in reference to persons (tongue in cheek here), I would say, "Good luck!"
First, I'm not much of a believer in "luck". Secondly, if we are even being partly honest with ourselves, I know why Jesus "did not entrust himself to them...he knew what was in man", because I myself, at times in my life - "lied", told "half-truths", and "tickled the ears" of others.
Jesus didn't need them, me, or you. But, I believe and confess that I need Christ.
How does one keep from being cynical in light of such a confession of, "knowing what is in man"?
Put your trust in God and by doing so, you may have "hope" and "love" for others, and yourself!
Trust God that you may have and "grow" in faith, hope, and love!
