Idols
"Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: 'I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no God. And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me, since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come. Let them show these to them. Do not fear, nor be afraid; have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Indeed there is no other rock; I know not one.'"
Isaiah 44:6-8
In haste for answers, in desiring to "control" the circumstances and outcomes in one's personal life...humanity creates idols out of all manners of things: "If I only had more money"; "If I only had a better job"; "If only I could get into this college"; "If only we lived in this neighborhood"; "If only the President...."
What if...
"If God is God in my life, and God is good, and God is love, and God's grace is sufficient, and God is my provider, and God has healed my wounded soul, time-and-time-again, and someday, WHAT IF...for one last time, I will stand before God to answer for my every thought and action"....
Oh my! Then I do believe with all my heart, soul, and strength....
I will:
1. Confess my wayward desires and turn from seeking to be in control by placing my faith in others or myself.
2. Beg, petition, pray...that God will guide me in all that I think, say, and do this day.
3. Give thanks to the Lord for all the blessings that I see, know, and am currently enjoying and experiencing.
4. Accept the grace afforded me today to honor God in word, deed, and sign of God's call and claim upon my life to the privilege and responsibility of being a disciple of Jesus Christ (this is the part that will cost us everything).
No idols for me today…
