Comparison
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. John 7:37-39
Comparing yourself to another brings about self-awareness. Self-awareness leads to self-pity. Self-pity perpetuates and feeds the notion that you are to "do things" in your own strength, according to your will and purpose.
There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Rm 8:1). When we yield our lives to Christ, peace comes, hope replaces discouragement, and the Spirit is the master of our will.
In the Olympic language, "you cannot run another's race or, at best, you will be either a silver or bronze." Thankfully, Christ's claim upon your life is secured in the grace of God. Christ asks only one thing from each and any of us, "Will you yield your life to me?" You do not need to run another's race, not even Christ's...however, the prize is secured when you allow Christ to run yours.
Holy God, in your mercy, I yield my life to you. Have your way, be my way, lead the way, that in all my ways the love of Christ and the will of the Spirit will be a light for another's path to kingdom living…
