Believe

Jesus said, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

There is little difficulty in believing that you and I face trials, challenges, pain and suffering. No, that is easy enough to grasp. The challenge is to "be of good cheer" in the stark reality of such tribulations.

Yet, Jesus tells us to do just such. The mystery of faith is revealed when we give attention to Jesus as Christ; focusing on and submitting to Him and His claim, "I have overcome the world."

He also said, "I do not pray that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one" (JN 17:15).

Today, now, give attention to the King of kings, Emmanuel, Christ! Know the peace of God that passes all understanding.

Holy God, strengthen our faith in you that the trials of life lose their power and hold over us. Only you Lord Jesus are sovereign, for you alone have defeated the sin of the world. I pray, as your followers, we will be the "face and heart" of your joy in the world this day...
